Waxing Home Care

So you've booked your appointment, and you're ready for your wax.  Now what?!

Well, there's a lot YOU can do to ensure that you get the best possible results from your waxing treatment.....

Before your appointment....

* Exfoliate and moisturise the area to be waxed at least 24hours prior to your appointment.  Dry, rough skin does not wax well.

* Do not sunbathe / have a UV heat treatment for at least 24hrs before your wax.

*  You should not have a wax treatment if you are using topical VitaminA or Retinol / Retinoids on the area.  Additionally, you should not book a wax treatment if you are taking:  Antibiotics, Accutane, Renova, Warfarin, acne medications, blood or skin thinning medications.  Please advise in advance if you have taken / used any of these, or similar, products in the last 12weeks.

*  Drink plenty of water prior to your appointment (if you are dehydrated the treatment can be more uncomfortable).  Avoid caffeine, alcohol, energy drinks.

*  Immediately prior to your appointment, do not use any creams, perfumes, cosmetics etc on the area to be waxed.

*  Wear loose clothing where possible.  Avoid man-made fabrics, skinny jeans / leggings / gym wear /tight, synthetic, thong / G-string knickers (Brazilian / bikini waxing)

*  Please ensure that you are showered and clean when you arrive for your appointment.  Intimate wipes are available if you would like 'freshen up' before your treatment.

*  If you have your period on the day of your bikini / Brazilian wax appointment, please ensure that you are wearing a clean tampon or a (secure) menstrual cup in place.

After your appointment.....

*  The waxed area may appear 'spotty' or show signs of redness.  This is a perfectly normal (histamine) reaction, and should disappear within a few hours of treatment.

*  Avoid touching / scratching / rubbing the waxed area, as this can transfer bacteria to your open pores.

*  Keep the waxed area dry, clean, and hygienic for at least 24hrs after treatment.

*  Do not use any perfumed products on the area for the first 24hrs after treatment (no soaps, shower gels, perfume, deoderents, talc etc)  For facial waxing, do not apply cosmetics / make-up for at least 24hrs.

*  Do not swim (sea or pool), sauna, hot tub, sunbathe for at least 24hrs after your wax.  Avoid any activities that cause sweating, friction, rubbing, heat (including sports, gym, sex).  These are the No.1 causes of bacterial infection after a wax treatment!

* Avoid tight, synthetic clothing / underwear for 24hrs after your wax.  Where possible, wear loose, cotton fabrics.

*  It is ESSENTIAL that you follow a good skincare routine after your wax treatment.  To get the best out of your wax, and to avoid ingrown hairs or similar skin issues, you need to exfoliate and moisturise the area every 2-3days.  If you do get an ingrown hair (some people are more prone to them than others) DO NOT pick or squeeze!  This can lead to infection and scarring.  I am happy to recommend suitable home care products during your appointment.

* Do not shave between wax appointments.  You've already invested time, effort and money in getting a great wax, so don't undo all your hard work by shaving!  Stick to a regular waxing schedule (4-5weeks for body, 3-4weeks for brows / facial waxing) and you will quickly see the results you want..... Smooth, healthy, glowing skin.  Much less hair growth, meaning longer between each wax appointment.  Finer, softer, less noticeable hair growth.
