Waxing Q&A

Maybe you're new to waxing, or just new to Bliss.  Either way, you may have a few questions before you commit to booking a wax.

Q. How long should my hair be before waxing?

A. On average, you'll need at least 4weeks growth since your last wax (or epilation), and at least 3weeks growth since your last shave.  It's better to have "too much" hair than not enough!  Please don't 'trim' before your appointment.

Q. Is waxing painful?

A. Everyone has a different pain threshold.  But when a wax treatment is carried out professionally and correctly, there should be minimal discomfort.  I am an extremely experienced Wax Specialist, and use techniques that ensure the most comfortable experience for you.  I only use very high quality professional waxes and products, which ensure the best possible treatment experience for you.

Q.  How long will the results of my wax last?

A. Regrowth patterns vary, but you will start to see some regrowth hair after 2-3weeks, sometimes sooner (particularly if you've switched from shaving).  Hair generally grows in a 4week cycle.  With regular waxing hair growth will lessen, and regrowth becomes softer and finer.  After sticking to an initial 4week wax schedule, you can gradually extend the time between waxes as the hair growth lessens.

Q.  What's the difference between strip wax and 'hard' wax?

A. Strip wax (sometimes known as 'warm' or 'soft' wax) is heated to a thin consistency and applied directly to the skin, with either a roller or spatula.  It's then removed using a cotton or paper strip.  Strip wax is very good for removing large areas of hair (eg. legs / arms) and removing very fine hair.

'Hard' wax (also known as non-strip / 'hot wax' / film wax) is heated to a much lower temperature and has a much thicker consistency.  When applied to the skin it dries very quickly to a flexible, non-sticky texture.  It is removed directly (no strips) and unlike strip wax, it ONLY adheres to the hair, not the skin, making it ideal for sensitive skin and is much less uncomfortable for the removal of dense, thick, or coarse hair.  It is perfectly suited for Brazilian waxing and (in my opinion) much safer for use on intimate areas.

Q. Can I get waxed if I'm on my period?

A. Absolutely. Yes.  Although some people do find themselves a little more sensitive during their period.  If you're booked for a bikini / Brazilian wax I do ask that you wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup during the service, and just let me know before we start your wax treatment.

Q. What should I expect from a Brazilian / Intimate wax?

A. If you've committed to a Brazilian wax, now's not the time to be shy.  I am a very experienced waxer and can assure you that you will feel at ease with me.  It may feel a little odd at first, but I am only interested in providing you with a first class hair removal service.  I will not judge or scrutinise you in any way.  I'll be way too busy making you hair-free and happy!  Now you will, of course, need to remove your knickers for this service.  And I will ask you to move into certain positions to ensure that I can access and remove all the necessary hair.  No need to feel awkward or embarrassed.... I am a professional, and am the best at what I do.  You are in very safe, friendly hands with Bliss.

Q. What's the difference between a Bikini wax and a Brazilian wax?

A.  It can be confusing, with different salons offering different kinds of waxes, with lots of different names.  At Bliss it's pretty simple......

Bikini Wax - Removes hair from the knicker line / leg crease and any pubic hair OUTSIDE of the knicker line.

High Bikini - As above, but also removes slightly more hair from INSIDE the knicker line, and the top of the pubic  (if required)

Brazilian / Intimate waxing -  Traditionally Brazilian waxing removes all hair from the vulva and surrounding areas, including the mons pubis / pubic mound, labia, perineum, anal area, gluteal crease, and buttocks.

At Bliss you can choose from (or any variation on)........

The Playboy - the classic "landing strip".  All hair removed as per a traditional Brazilian wax but leaving a strip on the mons pubis.

The Hollywood -  ALL hair removed..... Back, front, underneath.  Completely smooth.
